What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses many thin needles to create small micro-wounds in the skin, which helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, key building blocks for firm and smooth skin.

Overall, microneedling can be used to achieve the following:

  • Improve uneven skin tone and texture
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimize hyperpigmentation
  • Shrink enlarged pores
  • Treat acne scars
  • Diminish the look of stretch marks
  • Achieve overall skin rejuvenation

Who is a Candidate for Microneedling?

Healthy individuals who are bothered by signs of aging skin, skin discoloration or uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and more can often benefit from microneedling. Additionally, this treatment is safe for darker skin tones, unlike some other aesthetic treatments that may risk pigment changes. If you believe that microneedling may be the solution to your skincare concerns, contact BalMedSKIN today to schedule your consultation. During this time, you can discuss your aesthetic goals, medical history, and more, and a personalized treatment plan will be created for you.

The Microneedling Treatment

The microneedling procedure is performed in the office using topical anesthetic. A special microneedling wand equipped with many tiny needles will be passed over the skin, creating many very small micro-wounds in the treatment area. In turn, this process stimulates the skin’s healing process, smoothing skin texture and addressing uneven tone.

At Balance Medical, we can also combine microneedling with Platelet-rich plasma to further improve collagen production. Following microneedling, concentrated PRP is applied to the treated skin, allowing it to deeply penetrate the microchannels for enhanced rejuvenation.

Microneedling Recovery and Results

Patients may experience mild redness, flaking, or peeling 24-48 hours after treatment. A noticeable improvement in skin texture and tone can often be seen within a few days, with continued improvement over weeks as the skin continues to produce collagen. Some patients may require a series of microneedling treatments to achieve desired outcomes.

To maintain results, it is recommended that patients avoid sun exposure and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily, use gentle skincare products, and stay hydrated.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Can microneedling be used to soften the appearance of surgical scars?

Yes, microneedling can effectively soften the appearance of many types of skin scars, including acne scars and surgical scars. It works by creating micro-injuries in the scar tissue, triggering the body's natural healing process to break down rigid scar fibers and encourage the growth of new, healthier skin.

Can I have microneedling with active acne?

Microneedling is not recommended if you have active acne, as the treatment can spread bacteria, worsen inflammation, and potentially lead to more breakouts or infections. However, if you have acne scars and your active breakouts are under control, microneedling can be an effective treatment for improving acne scars.
