Many of these procedures are minimally invasive, which means faster recovery times and less disruption to your daily life. In general, the following procedures are typically performed as outpatient surgeries, so you can sleep in your own bed the night of your surgery!

Tubal Ligation

Tubal ligation, often referred to as “having your tubes tied,” is a permanent form of birth control. The procedure involves removing the fallopian tubes to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus and sperm from reaching the eggs. Tubal ligation is a highly effective contraceptive option for women who are certain they do not want to become pregnant in the future.

Diagnostic Laparoscopy

Diagnostic laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to examine the organs in the pelvis and abdomen. It is commonly performed to investigate unexplained pelvic pain, infertility, or conditions such as endometriosis. A small incision is made within the belly button, and a laparoscope (a thin tube with a light and video camera) is inserted to provide a clear view of the internal organs. This procedure can help identify and diagnose various gynecologic conditions.

Endometriosis Fulguration

Endometriosis fulguration is a procedure used to treat endometriosis by removing or destroying endometrial implants that have grown outside the uterus. The procedure is performed via laparoscopic surgery, where a small camera and surgical instruments are inserted through small incisions in the umbilicus. Fulguration involves cauterizing the endometrial tissue to reduce the symptoms of endometriosis, such as pain and infertility. Dr. Rhonda has been performing this surgical intervention successfully for more than 20 years!

Laparoscopic Ovarian Cyst Excision

Laparoscopic ovarian cyst excision is a minimally invasive surgery to remove cysts from the ovaries. Using small incisions and a laparoscope, Dr. Rhonda can access the ovaries to remove the cysts, while preserving healthy ovarian tissue. This procedure is often recommended if an ovarian cyst is large, persistent, or causing symptoms such as pain or bloating.

Operative Hysteroscopy

Operative hysteroscopy is a surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions inside the uterus. A hysteroscope (a thin tube with a light and video camera) is inserted through the cervix to examine the uterine cavity. If needed, surgical instruments are used to remove or correct conditions such as smaller uterine fibroids, polyps or adhesions.  This procedure is often performed to help treat issues that affect fertility or cause abnormal menstrual cycles. Additionally, postmenopausal bleeding may also be addressed with this type of intervention, either in the office or in the operating room.

Endometrial Ablation

Endometrial ablation is a procedure used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding by removing or destroying the endometrial lining of the uterus. At Balance Medical, we partner with Hologic for Novasure heat ablation and Channel Medsystems for Cerene cold ablation. We are proud to offer these game-changing procedures, comfortably, in the office and in the operating room. Endometrial ablation is an effective treatment for women with heavy bleeding and who do not wish to preserve fertility.

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive surgery to remove the uterus through three small incisions in the abdomen near the hip bones and at the belly button. Through these less than one centimeter incisions, a laparoscope is used to guide the removal of the uterus. This procedure is often recommended for women with conditions such as annoying periods, fibroids, cancer, or chronic pelvic pain. Laparoscopic hysterectomy offers faster recovery times and less postoperative pain compared to traditional open surgery.

Vaginal Hysterectomy

A vaginal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed through the vagina. This approach is typically used for women who have had a previous vaginal delivery. Vaginal hysterectomy can correct conditions such as abnormal menses, uterine prolapse or fibroids. Vaginal hysterectomy offers the benefit of no abdominal incisions, leading to a quicker recovery time and less postoperative discomfort.

Bladder Tuck

A bladder tuck, also known as bladder suspension surgery or anterior repair, is a procedure used to treat urinary incontinence and bladder prolapse. The surgery involves lifting and supporting the bladder and urethra to restore normal function. This procedure is commonly recommended for women who experience leakage of urine when they cough, sneeze, laugh, or exercise. This procedure can also correct any bulges of the bladder or anterior vagina.

Bladder Sling

A bladder sling is a surgical procedure used to treat stress urinary incontinence. Stress incontinence can be bothersome due to loss of urine with laugh, cough or sneeze. During the procedure, a tiny mesh sling is placed under the urethra to support the and prevent urine leakage. The procedure is minimally invasive and is performed through a small vaginal incision. A bladder sling can provide long-lasting relief for women who struggle with urinary incontinence.

Vaginal Prolapse Repair

Vaginal prolapse repair is a surgical procedure used to correct pelvic organ prolapse, a condition where the bladder, uterus, or rectum drops into the vaginal canal. This can lead to symptoms such as pelvic pressure, urinary incontinence, or difficulty with bowel movements. The repair is performed through the vagina and aims to restore the organs to their normal position and provide relief from the associated symptoms.

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reconstruct or tighten the vaginal canal. It is often sought by women who experience vaginal laxity due to childbirth or the natural aging process. Vaginoplasty can improve the appearance and function of the vaginal area, enhance sexual satisfaction, and address urinary incontinence or bowel issues that can result from vaginal laxity.

Cervix Conization

Cervix conization, also known as a cone biopsy, is a procedure to remove a cone-shaped portion of the cervix to diagnose or treat abnormal cells that may indicate cervical dysplasia or early-stage cervical cancer. This procedure is typically performed when Pap smear and colposcopy show abnormal results. The tissue removed is examined under a microscope to determine if cancerous or precancerous cells are present. Typically the procedure is diagnostic and curative with respect to the removal of abnormal tissue.
