What is PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a substance derived from a patient’s blood that contains a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. These regenerative building blocks promote skin rejuvenation, collagen production, and tissue regeneration, making them ideal for addressing a variety of aging and skin concerns. PRF can be used in a variety of ways, including:
- Facial rejuvenation
- Under-eye rejuvenation
- Acne scarring and skin repair
- Lip and facial enhancement
- Hair restoration
Who is a Candidate for PRF?
Individuals who are healthy overall, have strong immune systems, and are seeking natural rejuvenation can often benefit from PRF. However, those with certain blood clotting disorders, low platelet count, active skin infections, certain autoimmune conditions, smokers, or those who are pregnant or nursing should not receive PRF treatment. Testimonial
“I’ve had several facials at Bal Med SKIN and it was phenomenal! They were very professional and communicated and explained to me the process every step of the way. I felt so relaxed and really enjoyed my time with them. I highly recommend microneedling and BBL forever young! My skin is glowing and has never looked better!”

The PRF treatment is a multi-step process. To begin, a small amount of blood will be drawn, typically from your arm. The collection process will be similar to a standard blood draw.
Next, this blood will be placed into a device known as a centrifuge, which spins the blood to separate blood components. The blood will separate into three layers, including red blood cells, plasma, and platelet-rich fibrin.
The PRF is then extracted from the centrifuge and prepared for application. PRF can be applied in a variety of different ways, depending on the area being treated. These include:
Injection: PRF can be injected into specific areas like the under-eyes, hair follicles, or areas with acne scarring to promote healing and regeneration.
Microneedling: For skin rejuvenation, PRF is often combined with microneedling, where small needles create micro-injuries in the skin, allowing the PRF to penetrate deeply. This stimulates collagen production, improving skin texture, fine lines, and overall skin health.
Topical Application: In some cases, PRF can be applied topically for surface-level rejuvenation, though it’s less common than microneedling or injections.
PRF Recovery and Results
Following a PRF treatment, patients may experience mild redness or swelling in the treatment area. However, because PRF uses the body’s natural components, recovery is minimal. Depending on the specific treatment, results may be seen gradually as collagen is produced and healing occurs.
PRF is typically performed in multiple sessions for the best results. Many patients undergo 1-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. Our team will work with you to create a personalized PRF plan based on your needs.
