What is Waxing?

Waxing focuses on enhancing the appearance of the skin by removing unwanted body hair from many areas, such as the face, legs, bikini area, and underarms, for a smooth and aesthetically pleasing outcome. When it comes to professional waxing, there are two different types of wax that can be used.

Soft Wax: Soft wax is applied in thin layers and removed using a cloth strip. It is ideal for removing hair from larger areas such as the legs, arms, and back.

Hard Wax: Hard wax hardens on the skin and is removed without a strip. This technique is often used for more sensitive skin and areas such as the bikini line, face, and underarms.

Benefits of Waxing

There are many benefits associated with waxing compared to other hair removal methods, such as tweezing and shaving, including:

  • Longer-Lasting Results: Hair is removed from the root, leading to slower regrowth.
  • Finer and Softer Regrowth: Over time, hair may grow back thinner and less coarse.
  • Exfoliation Benefits: Removes dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth.
  • No Razor Burns or Cuts: Unlike shaving, waxing reduces the risk of irritation.

The Waxing Treatment

To prepare for your waxing treatment, you will be asked to stop shaving and tweezing for two weeks prior to your wax. Gently exfoliating the area to be waxed on the day before your treatment can also help to remove dead skin cells for a closer wax.

On the day of your waxing treatment, your aesthetician will apply soft or hard wax to the treatment area in the direction of hair growth. If soft wax is used, a cloth strip is pressed onto the wax and quickly pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. If hard wax is used, the wax hardens and is removed without a stip.

You may experience a quick stinging sensation as the hair is removed, but this fades quickly. Following waxing, a calming lotion, aloe vera, or post-wax oil will be applied to reduce redness and irritation.

Waxing Recovery and Results

Following waxing, you may experience redness temporarily. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and extensive workouts for 48 hours after treatment to avoid irritation. Following 48 hours, gently exfoliate the area to prevent ingrown hairs and keep the skin hydrated with a light moisturizer.

How long do waxing results last?

Hair grows in different phases (anagen, catagen, telogen). If waxed in the early growth stage (anagen), results typically last longer. For areas with slower hair growth, results may last for 4-6 weeks. Faster growing areas may need waxing every 2-3 weeks.

Can I wax on my period?

Yes, if you're comfortable, waxing during your period is perfectly fine. However, during your period, your skin may be more sensitive due to hormonal changes, which can make the waxing process feel a little more uncomfortable than usual.
