Taking care of your mental and emotional health is just as important as managing your physical health. At Balance Medical in Bismarck, ND, we offer support for women facing stress, anxiety, depression, mood changes, and more…especially during major life transitions like pregnancy, menopause, or postpartum recovery.

Whether you need help managing symptoms, understanding what’s going on, or just want to talk to someone who will actually listen, we’re here for that.

What Is Behavioral & Emotional Health Care?

This part of your care focuses on how you feel, think, and cope day to day. Hormones, sleep, trauma, stress, and life changes can all affect your mental health, but many women downplay these symptoms or don’t realize they can get real support in a medical setting.

Our providers ask the real questions, listen without judgment, and help you sort through what’s normal, what’s not, and what next steps might help.

What We Can Help With

Our approach is personal, not one-size-fits-all. We often work with women dealing with:

Anxiety & Stress
Racing thoughts, tension, trouble sleeping, or feeling like you’re constantly “on edge.”

Depression
Feeling low, withdrawn, hopeless, or emotionally flat. These symptoms aren’t just sadness, and they’re not something you have to push through alone.

Postpartum Mood Changes
Baby blues are common, but longer-lasting mood swings, anger, overwhelm, or disconnection can be signs of postpartum depression or anxiety.

Perimenopause & Menopause Shifts
Hormonal changes can affect mood, memory, and emotional stability. You’re not imagining it, and there are options that can help.

Irritability, Burnout, and Brain Fog
Sometimes it’s not a clear diagnosis; it’s just feeling “off.” We’ll help you figure out what’s behind it and how to feel better.

Sleep Disturbance & Fatigue
Poor sleep and mental health often go hand-in-hand. We’ll help you identify patterns and create a plan.

How We Approach Treatment

We’re not here to push medication if it’s not right for you. We talk through all options: lifestyle changes, lab work, therapy referrals, supplements, or prescriptions when needed. And we help you understand the why behind your symptoms, not just how to treat them.

In some cases, we may recommend:

  • Mental health screening tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7)
  • Hormone labs to check for imbalances
  • Counseling or therapy referrals
  • Non-habit-forming supplements
  • Prescription medication, when appropriate
  • Follow-up visits to track how you’re doing

We believe emotional health is health. You shouldn’t have to suffer in silence or feel dismissed when you speak up.

Frequently Asked Questions About Behavioral & Emotional Health Services

Can I talk to my OB/GYN about mental health?

Yes. Many emotional symptoms are linked to hormonal shifts or life transitions we already help with. OB/GYNs are often the first stop for women dealing with mood changes, and we’re trained to support and guide you.

What if I’m not sure what I’m feeling?

That’s completely normal. You don’t have to come in with a diagnosis or plan. If something feels off or different, we’ll help you talk it through and decide what support makes sense.

Do you prescribe medication for anxiety or depression?

We can, when appropriate. If medication is part of your care, we’ll talk you through all the pros, cons, and what to expect. We can also recommend therapy or holistic options depending on your needs and comfort level.

What if I’m struggling but don’t want to talk about it in front of others?

Your privacy matters. Our office is a safe, confidential space. You can bring up emotional concerns at any visit or schedule specifically to talk through mental health.

Is this covered by insurance?
