What Is Menopause?

Menopause marks the end of menstrual cycles. It is officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period, signaling that the ovaries are producing much lower levels of estrogen and progesterone. For most women, this occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, though the timing can vary.

Unlike perimenopause, which is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, menopause is the point where fertility ends and hormonal patterns shift into a new stage of life.

Common Symptoms

Because of decreased hormone production, many women experience changes that may affect daily living, including:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Vaginal dryness or discomfort during intimacy
  • Weight gain or changes in metabolism
  • Mood fluctuations or irritability
  • Decreased bone density
  • Reduced energy or feelings of brain fog

Not everyone experiences every symptom, and their intensity can vary from person to person. At Balance Medical, our goal is to help you find relief from the issues that matter most to you.

What to Expect at Balance Medical

If you come to us with concerns about menopause, we’ll begin with a thorough evaluation. This includes:

  • Reviewing your health history and current symptoms
  • Checking for related conditions, such as bone loss or heart risk factors
  • Discussing treatment options including lifestyle adjustments and hormone therapy
  • Creating a care plan that is realistic, safe, and designed around your priorities

We understand that menopause presents differently for every woman, so we’ll take the time to answer your questions and explain your options.
